Who We Are
Clan Rattray USA are a group of Rattray's dedicated to learning about our ancestry, history of the clan society, culture of our Scottish roots and to read the latest information pertaining to our family. We will post Clan Rattray updates on this website, host a blog, and attach a link to our Facebook group with intention of connecting Rattray families together.
Craighall Castle is the seat of the last 28 Chief's of Clan Rattray from approximately the 1500’s until around 2010. Located in the lush Perthshire woods, perched 300 feet above the River Ericht. This estate is the main location the Rattray’s have met for centuries. Still an opulent setting for the eye to see. Clan Rattray were Picts in the earliest of times, who after approximately 900 A.D. had combined together to form Clan Rattray after being awarded a title under Malcolm, King of Scotland for valor in battle. The Clan was known to be Catholic in faith, Staunch Jacobites and due to these two distinctive traits, led to the Rattray's dispersing across the globe. Many Rattray's changed their names, or had their names anglicized when relocating. Craighall Castle was once seized by the British Crown as a punitive measure but returned after trial by acquittal was attained.
